Democratic Congressional candidate Manan Trivedi has received the endorsement of local state senator Andy Dinniman, his campaign told PoliticsPA Wednesday, another sign the underdog Trivedi is a contender to win his party’s nomination in the 6th District.

“We have a great opportunity in reclaiming the (sixth district) in Manan Trivedi,” Dinniman said in a statement. “His knowledge, his service to his community and country, both as a physician and an Iraq War veteran, have prepared him well for the halls of Congress.”

Dinniman’s statement was included in an e-mail announcing an “endorsement party” the senator will hold for Trivedi Nov. 15.  Former Congressional candidate Bob Roggio, who has also endorsed Trivedi, is co-hosting the event. The e-mail was provided to PoliticsPA by the Trivedi campaign.

Dinniman had considered running for Congress before withdrawing from consideration over the summer.

Trivedi faces front-runner and former Inquirer editorial writer Doug Pike for the party’s nomination. Pike seemed to have the Democratic nomination secured just a few months ago, when he received endorsements from the region’s congressional delegation at a time when Trivedi’s campaign was mostly unknown. The candidate was also able to raise an impressive amount of money, much of it from his own personal fortune.

But Trivedi’s strong fundraising numbers — he raised more than $110,000 in the third quarter — and surprising endorsement from influential former state senator Connie Williams, coupled with Dinniman’s support,  show the race has likely just begun.
