Republican gubernatorial candidate Sam Rohrer has about $100,000 on hand after raising nearly $250,000 through January, his senior strategist Jeff Coleman told PoliticsPA.
Coleman said the campaign raised nearly all of that money in two months, December and January, after declaring his candidacy late last year.
The numbers are far lower than the $4.2 million Attorney General and GOP gubernatorial front-runner Tom Corbett raised last year, giving him $3.2 million on hand to being 2010. But the disparity isn’t surprising given Corbett’s near unanimous support among GOP officials, and Rohrer has emphasized from the beginning his strategy focuses on support from grassroots conservative activists.
“We’ll start fundraising more aggressively now,” Coleman said. “We’re in that phase.”
The strategist said Rohrer has spent his money on fire halls and gas so far, alluding to the candidate’s array of town halls across Pennsylvania to begin his campaign.
CLARIFICATION: An earlier version of this story said Rohrer raised $250,000 mostly in December. That was incorrect — he had raised most of that in December and January.
