Arlen Specter leads Democratic Senate rival Joe Sestak by 21 points, 53 percent to 32 percent, in a Rasmussen Reports poll released Thursday, an increase of 8 points from his lead last month.
The most poll’s most significant part might be the fact it shows Specter with over 50 percent support among likely Democratic voters, an important marker for any candidate vying for re-election.
The poll surveyed 421 likely Democratic voters and has a margin of error of 5 percentage points.

UPDATED: An earlier version of this story said Specter didn’t top 50 percent in any recent poll, but a Quinnipiac University poll taken in December showed the incumbent leading Sestak 53 percent to 30 percent.
