Capitolwire (subscription required): Bill DeWeese, just a day after learning he would go to trial to face charges stemming from his ‘Bonusgate’ indictment,’ told Capitolwire’s Pete DeCoursey that Attorney General Tom Corbett should hold his trial before November’s election. That way, the former House speaker said, voters know will can use its outcome to decide how they vote. The Greene County lawmaker believes he is innocent.

“Tom is running on his record as attorney general, asking voters to judge him on his record as attorney general,” DeWeese told the news service during a Tuesday interview. “So the citizens of Pennsylvania have a right to see this trial in October, not next March. We are ready. These are straightforward charges and we have answers for them, and when our case is heard, I am confident that 12 jurors will absolve me of the charges, just as the voters in the 50th District did when I won my primary against two strong challengers.”

“This could be tried in a week and should be tried in October, so before they decide on him for governor, people can get an idea of how Tom has conducted himself in August.”
