With the June 30 budget deadline fast approaching, Pennsylvania lawmakers are saying all the right things about finishing this year’s state budget on time, but leave it to the Guv to shoot straight from the hip. Vowing not to budge on education spending, Rendell is already in full negotiation mode. ” I’m ready. I’m ready for 101 days if it’s necessary.” Yikes. This year’s budget mess can’t be as messy as last year’s, can it?
The biggest story about President Obama‘s trip to Pittsburgh, it seems, was his lackluster welcome party. Sure, Mayor Luke Ravenstahl was there to greet him, but local Dem Reps. Doyle, Altmire, Critz, Sen. Casey and Joe Sestak all declined invitations. Not feeling the love in Pittsburgh, Barack Obama and Ben Roethlisberger now have something in common.
As Joe Sestak and the White House try to tiptoe away from the “Jobgate” scandal, Colorado U.S. Senate candidate Andrew Romanoff put back-room job offers back in the spotlight, claiming that Obama’s Deputy COS offered him three jobs to duck from the race. Invariably, every Romanoff story will contain reminders of Sestak’s secret conversations with Bill Clinton.
While Sid the Kid works on his short game on a Pittsburgh golf course, the improbable Stanley Cup run from the Philadelphia Flyers continues. As city officials hope (brace?) for a potentially costly victory parade, Pennsylvania’s hockey moms rejoice. And that’s not all, the Hershey Bears will face off in the AHL (minor league) championship series against the Texas Stars in an epic BBQ vs. Chocolate matchup.
Republican Pat Toomey has to like the early results from the latest Rasmussen poll showing him up 7 points. Republicans are lining up behind Toomey, but the poll shows that some Dems (likely Specter voters) are hesitant to get on board with Sestak. Much, much more to come here, though.

The Sestak job offer fiasco has legs. It isn’t going quietly away.
You indicated that none of the local congressmen were there to welcome President Obama. However, I saw Congressman Altmire greeting President Obama when he got off of his plane in Pittsburgh – he definately WAS there.
I would rather have a President who promised jobs, then one who lied to get us into a war that killed Americans, innocent civilians and spent billions of dollars!
