PoliticsPA’s Weekly Primer: 5/3 Edition

In the wake of a testy Senate primary debate between Democrats Arlen Specter and Joe Sestak, the bitter primary battle has commenced in full, a story that will dominate headlines and political conversations until the general election race mercifully begins on May 19.

As the campaigns focused their narratives (hint – they’re mostly negative), expect your TVs to become saturated with reasons why Arlen Specter (who spent nearly three decades as a Senate Republican) and Joe Sestak (whose naval record remains hidden and increasingly controversial) can’t be trusted by Democratic voters.  And, for political junkies in Pennsylvania, Muhlenberg pollsters will provide a daily fix – a tracking poll that will show where the Sestak-Specter race stands on a daily basis. A poll from Quinnipiac University is expected this week, and could be joined by others to feed the speculative fire, particularly if Specter’s lead tightens in the single digits.

Plus, the Rick Santorum nationwide tour continues this week as the former Senator stops in Michigan to campaign with Rep. Peter Hoekstra, who is running for governor there. .  He is believed to be making rounds in important swing states as he weighs a potential run in 2012.
