Two of the state’s largest newspapers, The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and Philadelphia Inquirer, on Sunday endorsed incumbent U.S. Sen. Arlen Specter over Democratic challenger Joe Sestak.
“While Joe Sestak tries to portray himself as the genuine article, Arlen Specter is the real deal — with a demonstrated record of service for Pennsylvania. He’d be the stronger candidate for Democrats in the fall, and he has the Post-Gazette endorsement.”
“This race is competitive largely due to Sestak’s determination and to an anti-incumbent fervor that is bound to hurt the state’s longest-serving incumbent. But Specter is a senator for the ages. He is still a vital player and a worthy choice for Democrats.”
Specter is considered a strong favorite to defeat Sestak on May 18, although many experts still think the former admiral’s more than $5 million cash-on-hand gives him a fighting chance against the former Republican.

Specter a “former Republican”? Don’t forget former Democrat, then Republican, then Democrat again. And don’t think he wouldn’t switch again if he thought it would gain him a single vote. It’s not like he has any credibility left to lose.
