Rick Santorum ‘absolutely’ looking at 2012 presidential race

rick-santorumRick Santorum, a former U.S. senator from Pennsylvania, told ABC News’s Top Line webcast today that he is “absolutely taking a look” at running for the Republican nomination for president in 2012.

Santorum, who was voted out of office in 2006, said: “There’s very important matters and I want to weigh into those matters as to what the Republican Party stands for in 2010.”

Santorum has also been doing some traveling, and stopping in battleground states. In October he spoke at the University of Dubuque in Iowa, and ABC News is reporting a recent trip to Michigan and an upcoming trip to South Carolina.

Asked about former vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin as a potential opponent in a GOP primary, Santorum said: “She’s done a lot to draw attention to herself that’s positive. She’s done some things that, you know, certainly are going to cause her to have to do some explaining if she runs for president.”
