The roiling rumor mill over the Democratic gubernatorial contest raised the ire of one campaign for the next spot on the ticket. Amid unconfirmed speculation that one of the five current candidates for the nomination might drop down to the lieutenant governor’s race, a strategist for former Philadelphia city Controller Jonathan Saidel said warned against such a move.
In a preemptive strike, Marty Marks, called reporters yesterday with the word that Mr. Saidel had no intention of bowing out to accommodate any potential deal between current gubernatorial candidates.
“Jonathan Saidel is running for lieutenant governor; there is no room at the inn for one of these governor candidates to drop down,” Mr. Marks insisted. “If someone does drop down and there’s a deal made, it will be extremely unpopular in the Philadelphia area.”
