As former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum returns to Iowa Tuesday to address a Christian conservative group, he’s being greeted with robocalls accusing him of being a “pro-life fraud.”
The anonymous message, left on an Iowa answering machine and obtained by POLITICO, lashes Santorum for backing the candidacy of pro-abortion rights Republican Christie Todd Whitman, the former governor of New Jersey, and Republican-turned-Democrat Sen. Arlen Specter.
“If you don’t get a chance to speak with Rick Santorum face to face, please call him,” the recorded message says, “and ask him to apologize for his longtime support of radical, pro-abortion politicians.”
Aside from his support of Whitman and Specter, there is little to back up the charge that the former Pennsylvania senator is not committed to the anti-abortion cause. Santorum is an ardent cultural conservative and is in the early stages of exploring a presidential run in part because he sees an opening on the right.

The fraud part of the charge might be that Rick actually was a resident of Virginia while he was a senator from Pennsylvania. And the school district in PA that he said was his residence got stuck with paying tuition for his kids.
