Sestak says W.H. offered fed job if he quit

Rep. Joe Sestak (D., Pa.) said yesterday that the White House offered him a federal job in an effort to dissuade him from challenging Sen. Arlen Specter in the state’s Democratic primary.

The disclosure came during an afternoon taping of Larry Kane: Voice of Reason, a Sunday news-analysis show on the Comcast Network. Sestak would not elaborate on the circumstances and seemed chagrined after blurting out “yes” to veteran news anchor Kane’s direct question.

“Was it secretary of the Navy?” Kane asked.

“No comment,” Sestak said.

“Was it [the job] high-ranking?” Kane asked. Sestak said yes, but added that he would “never leave” the Senate race for a deal.

  1. The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has launched a probe of Representative Sestak’s ties with UFCW Local 1776 President Wendell Young IV. The FBI suspects Young IV bribed Sestak in 2006. The Office of Congressional Ethics (OCE) has also launched an inquiry into Sestak’s links to Young IV. Sestak is aware of the ongoing investigations, and hopes a deal can be struck: he will bring his floundering camapign to a close (and stop making public statements like the one above) if the White House and influential Democrats intercede on his behalf with the Justice Department. Sestak is not truly committed to his Senate bid; it is merely a weapon he is wielding in his battle against the Justice Department. In the meantime, any funds Sestak raises will be deposited in a Legal Defense Fund.

  2. HateSestak – IV is a Roman numeral meaning “the fourth,” it’s not actually part of his last name.
