The increasingly negative tone of the state Supreme Court race between Republican Joan Orie Melvin and Democrat Jack Panella has triggered complaints from attorneys who say both campaigns crossed the line in political ads.
Harrisburg attorney John J. McNally on Wednesday urged the Pennsylvania Bar Association to review television ads the Panella campaign aired that attack Orie Melvin’s temperament, rulings and impartiality.
“The ads in question, which unfairly attack Superior Court Judge Joan Orie Melvin, are paid for and authorized by Judge Jack Panella. I believe that these attack ads are in direct violation of the Judicial Code of Conduct, and the PBA should take swift action,” McNally said in an e-mail he released with his letter.
