The Hill newspaper reported Thursday that U.S. Reps. Chris Carney and Jason Altmire could be two critical votes for Democrats as the party tries to resuscitate its health care legislation.
Carney voted ‘yes’ late last year on the original House bill, while Altmire voted ‘no.’ Each man faces a potentially tough re-election battle this year against former U.S. attorneys — Mary Beth Buchanan for Altmire, Tom Marino for Carney — although the Republicans must first win their contested primary.
Here’s a snippet of what The Hill wrote about each:
Altmire: Altmire is one of the notable “no” votes who appears very open to saying yes this time. He went on “Fox News Sunday” over the weekend and said, “My constituents put me in Washington to cast tough votes on their behalf. I’m not afraid to take the vote.”
Carney: Carney has also been on the receiving end of some strongly worded ads that suggest he could pay a price if he’s the deciding vote. By the same token, if he bolts, Democratic leaders have problems.
