Toomey courts big donors

Republican Pat Toomey will be rubbing elbows Wednesday morning with representatives from some of the country’s largest businesses.

At a fundraiser breakfast hosted by Caterpillar, Toomey will be making his campaign pitch to a roomful of invited business leaders. Among the corporations invited by Caterpillar’s lobbyist, Bill Lane, are Pepsi, Chevron, Home Depot, ExxonMobile, Halliburton, Jone Deere and Wal-mart.

“While Pat is positioned to be one of the most pro-business, pro-growth members of the Senate, his opponents believe a populist, anti-business agenda can quickly gain traction,” Lane writes in an email to invited donors. “I’m confident you will be impressed.”

Dave Levinthal, a spokesman for the Center for Responsive Politics said the list of invited businesses is in line with the type of support Toomey received when he was in the House. The center’s database showed Toomey received most of his campaign donations over his career from conservative organizations, securities and investment firms, real estate and commercial banks. You can see the list of his donations here.
