1. Pennsylvania’s Uneven Economic Recovery Could Help Trump Here

Donald Trump in York

“Pennsylvania’s economy hasn’t seen the same post-pandemic rebound as other parts of the country, and that could create a problem for Vice President Kamala Harris as she seeks to win the trust of the state’s voters, who have said the economy is their top issue.

There were 1,783 more jobs in Philadelphia in 2023 than in 2019, a 0.3% increase, according to the New York Times, but Pennsylvania has largely come up short on the construction and manufacturing boom that other states have seen. Allegheny County is the only major county in the country where total employment has plummeted by more than 5% since 2019.” (Philadelphia Inquirer)

2. Auditor Faults PA Agency Over Fees From Medicaid-Funded Prescriptions

PAcast

“A review by Pennsylvania’s elected financial watchdog concluded there were shortcomings in a state agency’s oversight of fees paid to pharmacy benefit managers in the Medicaid program, but the claims were hotly disputed by state officials.

The report released Wednesday by Auditor General Tim DeFoor said the Department of Human Services allowed $7 million in improper “spread pricing” in the Medicaid program in 2022. Spread pricing is the difference between the amount a pharmacy benefit manager reimburses a pharmacy for a prescription and what it charges the health plan.” (AP)

5. The Loyalty Reward Downgrade Has Come for Hotel Guests

“Hotel loyalty programs are booming in popularity — which means hotels have pulled back on the actual rewards, The Wall Street Journal reports.

Discounts, upgrades and other perks now require more points than they used to, especially in popular destinations.
