As of this morning, only one Justice of the Pennsylvania Supreme Court had ever lost a bid for retention.
As of this evening, that number still stands.
Chief Justice Ron Castille, a Republican, and Justice Max Baer, a Democrat, easily won retention Tuesday.
With 53% of precincts reporting, 71% voted to keep Baer and 69% to keep Castille.
A string of recent judicial scandals in Pa. along with general dissatisfaction at government caused some to wonder whether voters would direct their anger at the Justices. But aside some last-minute complaints by tea party organizations, no serious movement emerged to oppose them.
Justice Baer reportedly ran a poll that found just over 50% of voters were inclined to keep him. He spend tens of thousands of dollars on a last-minute television ad.
Castille will reach the mandatory retirement age of 70 in 2014.
Superior Court judges Susan Peikes Gantman and Jack Panella also won retention with 69% apiece.
