Beck Announces Candidacy For Superior Court

Jill Beck

Jill Beck, a Pittsburgh-based attorney, announced her candidacy for the Pennsylvania Superior Court.

She becomes the first candidate to formally announce for the position. The Superior Court has two openings to be filled in the 2023 cycle.

“I’ve dedicated my entire career to the pursuit of justice in Pennsylvania’s trial and appellate courts,” she said in a campaign-opening video. “It doesn’t matter who you are, what you look like, how you pray, who you love, or how much money you make, everyone deserves a fair shot in the eyes of the law.

“I’m running for Superior Court to make our Commonwealth a better place to raise our families.”

Beck, 43, most recently practiced in the Commercial Litigation division at Philadelphia-based Blank Rome. Prior to joining the firm, Beck was a judicial law clerk for the Honorable Christine Donohue of the Pennsylvania Supreme Court where she conducted Pennsylvania, federal, and multi-state legal research. She also drafted majority and minority opinions in all areas of the law addressing issues of first impression, questions of statewide public importance, state and federal constitutional claims, and cases that resulted in a sentence of capital punishment. Prior to this role, Beck also served as a law clerk for Justice Donohue during her term on the Pennsylvania Superior Court.

A graduate of George Washington University, Beck earned her J.D. at the Duquesne School of Law.

“I want to put my experience on both sides of the Superior Court bench to work to ensure that justice in Pennsylvania truly is for all.”

Beck previously ran in a three-way Democratic primary for Superior Court in 2021, finishing second behind Timika Lane with 39.7 percent of the vote.

  1. “everyone deserves a fair shot in the eyes of the law” NO Everyone deserves equal treatment in the eyes of the law. Beck makes it clear she is an ideological advocate of equity which is the opposite of equality. Anyone who would stray from strict equality in the eyes of the law should never be put into the judiciary. It’s shocking she would so clearly admit to her activism goals.
