Biden To Rally In Philly

A Saturday kickoff in Philly.

Former Vice President Joe Biden will be holding his presidential campaign kickoff rally in Philadelphia on Saturday May 18 at Eakins Oval.

This rally, happening rain or shine, will be Biden’s second public appearance in Pennsylvania since he declared his intentions to seek the Democratic presidential nomination for 2020. His first public event was held at Teamster Hall Local 249 in Pittsburgh, just days after officially jumping in the race.

A release from his campaign today said Biden will “lay out his vision for unifying America with respected leadership on the world stage — and dignified leadership at home.”

Biden has placed a specific emphasis on winning over voters in Pennsylvania early in his campaign. The Scranton native said at his Pittsburgh campaign appearance that if he’s going to beat Donald Trump, he needs to win the keystone state.

The former Vice President has racked up a number of endorsements from Pennsylvania elected officials thus far as well. Sen. Bob Casey and Reps. Brendan Boyle (D-Philadelphia), Matt Cartwright (D-Lackawanna), and Dwight Evans (D-Philadelphia) pledged their support for Biden in the first 24 hours of his campaign announcement. All four were on the invite list for a Biden fundraiser in Philadelphia the same day he entered the race.

Biden remains the front runner in the Democratic primary in Pennsylvania according to recent polling. An Emerson College poll and Morning Call/Muhlenberg College poll show Biden holding double digit leads over the rest of the crowded field.

Sen. Bernie Sanders, who has also made multiple campaign appearances in Pennsylvania, stopping in two counties that swung to Trump in 2016, is a distant second in both of those polls.

Former Texas Congressman Beto O’Rourke was the first declared 2020 Democratic presidential hopeful to stop in PA at State College in March.

Pa. holds its 2020 primary on April 28, right at the midpoint of the Democratic calendar.

  1. Let’s stop the sanctimony when it comes to money in politics. Of course, we should have campaign finance reform and we did until the US Supreme Court decided with the conservative block to call a corporation a “person” for terms of political fundraising and pretty much ended McCain/Feingold legislative reform. Anyone who reads the political newsletters knows that everywhere in these articles are projections for fundraising and candidacies that fail out of the gate always involve a lack of fundraising. Trump is now raising big bucks and Biden and members of congress and senate and on and on and on. This entire matter is because the US Supreme Court conservative block gutted the real chance we had for reform when it called a corporation a “person” for term of fundraising.

  2. On GOTV weekend for the primary? In the major Democratic city in the state? Did State Committee know about this?

  3. If you want to see Biden’s priorities, his 1st stop in Philly was for a high dollar fundraiser with corporate suits. He does not represent the working man.

    1. That’s complete BS. Biden has been there for Labor. Biden took Amtrak to work, not riding in a limo. He’s more in touch with working people than most of the candidates.

Should he hobble himself without enough funding to beat Trump?

I’m guessing you are probably supporting Bernie with his “purism” that doesn’t win elections. Bernie’s problem is that he’s so uncompromising that he’s unreasonable and thus no better at making deals than Trump.

Biden is leading the field by HUGE margins in all the polls. He can’t waste time d*cking around trying to rely exclusively on low-dollar donations. Bernie’s been running non-stop for the past 4 years, and it not a credible candidate to win a general election. Biden was smart to post a huge 1-day total to show he can raise money.
