Big Sign That Stack Plans Guv Bid

Stack for Governor banner
Stack is fifth from the left

We mean this literally.

The photograph above has been circling in Philadelphia political circles today.

PoliticsPA assumed this meant state Sen. Mike Stack (D-Phila), who has been floating the possibility of a gubernatorial campaign for months, had finally decided to pull the trigger.

This weekend is the triannual Democratic State Committee meeting and party activists from across the state are gathered. It would be a good time to announce such a move.

But he hasn’t made a final decision yet, according to one of his campaign operatives, even though Stack will attend this weekend’s meeting in Lancaster (as will virtually all of the Democrats who have declared or might declare a campaign for Governor).

“We has a ward meeting and somebody just broke this out,” said the operative of the banner above. “It wasn’t something we authorized.”

He chalked it up to an “enthusiastic volunteer.”

Enthusiastic and thorough. The banner bears the disclaimer “Paid for by the committee to re-elect Mike Stack,” the Senator’s official campaign committee.

Stack has been travelling the state, talking and acting like a candidate for months. He already has the preemptive endorsement of Philly party Chairman and Congressman Bob Brady.

One more side note: back in December, Stack’s consultants purchased the url www.stackforgovernor.com.

  1. I think Stack has a clear path to the nomination with all the suburban candidates nuking each other for the same votes.

  2. The old guy on Stack’s right is his top senate aid Mike McAleer who’s name is all over the place in the traffic court fiasco. That’s the kind of people we need more of in Harrisburg, right?

  3. Get freaking real, Mike the king of taxpayer funded car washes Stack?? I’m a Dem who would vote for Corbett over that worthless scum Stack
