The U.S. House of Representatives passed a bill today to prohibit the transfer of prisoners at Guantanamo Bay.
The legislation, H.R. 5351, passed by the vote of 244 to 174.
Overall, 12 Democrats crossed party lines and supported the bill while 4 Republicans opposed it. Thirteen members missed the vote.
Except for Rep. Joe Pitts, who was one of the 13 to miss the roll call, the vote broke down among party lines.
All four Democrats Bob Brady, Brendan Boyle, Matt Cartwright and Mike Doyle all voted against the measure (Chaka Fattah’s old seat is still vacant).
On the other hand, the bill was supported by the twelve other Republican members: Lou Barletta, Ryan Costello, Charlie Dent, Mike Fitzpatrick, Mike Kelly, Tom Marino, Pat Meehan, Tim Murphy, Scott Perry, Keith Rothfus, Bill Shuster and Glenn Thompson.
The legislation will now head to the U.S. Senate.

Yeah stop the torture just chop their heads off…
How ironic that some hard cases who are against the opening of Cuba are apparently ok with the US gulag on Cuba soil. How does moving 61 detainees to the continental US to a maximum security prison become a security risk? Our society already incarcerates some very dangerous individuals in maximum security facilities.
America’s human rights scandal, undermining our claims to the moral high ground around the world and harming our reputation abroad. As Obama put it, this will be remembered as a “sad chapter in American history”.
Still 61 detainees. Many tortured. For more than a decade, without having been charged with a crime.
This is immoral, and we should all be ashamed, America.
