Breaking: McCaffery Tells Supporters He’ll Officially Launch AG Bid

By Keegan Gibson, Managing Editor

Attorney and former Philadelphia prosecutor Dan McCaffery will officially launch his bid soon, he wrote in an email to supporters that was obtained by PoliticsPA.

“Shortly, I will announce my candidacy for Pennsylvania’s Attorney General,” McCaffery wrote. “In the coming weeks, I will unveil my plan to reform the office and create the country’s most aggressive, responsive and accountable law enforcement agency.”

McCaffery ran for Philadelphia District Attorney in 2009, and is currently a partner in the firm Friedman, Schuman, Applebaum, Nemeroff and McCaffery. In the ‘80s he served in the Army and Army reserves. His brother, Seamus, serves on the PA Superior Court.

He already has campaign literature (to the right).

His 2012 efforts boasts the “support” of Congressman and Philly Democratic Chairman Bob Brady, but it is unclear whether Brady had committed the influential Philadelphia Democratic machine to McCaffery’s aid.

Currently, former Congressman Pat Murphy and former NEPA prosecutor Kathleen Granahan Kane have announced for the Democratic bid. Former philly DA Lynne Abraham is reportedly considering a run.

No Republicans have yet declared, but PA Senator John Rafferty (R-Montgomery), Cumberland County DA David Freed, and Montgomery County DA Risa Ferman are all rumored to be considering a run.

Here’s the complete email:

Dear Friends

Although I have yet to formally announce my candidacy for Pennsylvania Attorney General, I have taken the opportunity to travel across our Commonwealth to talk about the race.

The one thing that has come across loud and clear from Pennsylvanians from all walks of life, is that we need an Attorney General who is competent, qualified and honest.

We need a seasoned trial attorney who has been in the trenches fighting for justice and not another career politician looking for the next elected office.

Shortly, I will announce my candidacy for Pennsylvania’s Attorney General.

In the coming weeks, I will unveil my plan to reform the office and create the country’s most aggressive, responsive and accountable law enforcement agency.

My plan has been created through 21 years of trial and error-forged in the courtroom-not on the campaign trail.

I hope you will join me in this crusade.

Dan
