Breaking: Onorato Won’t Seek 3rd Term as County Exec

From WXPI Pittsburgh:

There’s been a lot of speculation over Allegheny County Chief Executive Dan Onorato’s future, but Target 11 has learned he will not run for re-election.

Sources told Target 11 investigator Rick Earle that Onorato will likely finish out the remainder of his term this year and will then run for statewide office again.

Onorato lost the gubernatorial race last year to Republican Tom Corbett. He is now thinking of running for state auditor general in 2012, Earle said.

Onorato’s office had no comment when WPXI contacted it, but he is expected to announce the details of his decision at a news conference later this week.

Onorato is in his second term as the county chief executive.
