BREAKING: Report: Shapiro to Run for Attorney General

Josh ShapiroJosh Shapiro just revealed the worst-kept secret in Pennsylvania.

According to Marc Levy of the Associated Press, the Montgomery County Commissioner is running for Attorney General.

Shapiro was widely expected to run and is even doing internal polling.

Allegheny County DA Stephen Zappala, Northampton DA John Morganelli, prosecutor Jack Stollsteimer and attorney Dave Fawcett are also running in the Democratic primary.

Additionally, Kathleen Kane just revealed that she has changed her mind and will run for re-election.

  1. Unfortunately for Kane, no one believes her defense that she didn’t know what was in the envelope that she authorized for release and passed along to smear her perceived enemies. Correct me if I’m wrong but wasn’t it reported that her testimony was that she didn’t even know who prepared/gave her the envelope? What!

Remember, she’s known about porngate emails since 2009 when her sister looped her in on the joke. Her GJ crime was in 2015. Did she move to release porngate emails in 2014? No. Did she expose this malfeasance in 2013? No. What she’s accused of and makes sense in light of her other actions is that she used their existence to leverage her critics to shut their mouth or else she’ll embarrass you. That’s blackmail.

When she threatened attorneys who rat on her after firing an attorney who ratted on her, that’s blackmail and unbecoming of the office.

Her defenders cry, “conspiracy,” but, the evidence for the. jury will have her undisputed actions and sworn witnesses, who are not on porngate emails, testifying in unison over her disputed actions.

  2. bobguzzardi-

“AG Kane has been indicted” is a far cry from being “convicted”. It’s not even remotely “probable cause” if you examine the historically low bar to get an indictment vs a conviction on the charges.

If you believe there is so much “probably cause”, then there should have been a trial MONTHS ago (or at least a trial date set).

  3. AG Kane has been indicted for leaking Grand Jury testimony which means there is legal probable cause to think she did do what she is charged for doing. Many voters may not think this is a qualification for highest law enforcement officer in Pennsylvania. On the other hand, a good offense may be the best defense given the evidence of criminal conduct against the AG.

If K Kane is the Democratic is the nominee, even Gleason and Asher’s band of incompetent, self-serving losers may be able to elect John ” I have not been indicted” Rafferty. Not being indicted may be his most significant qualification.

  4. Commissioner Shapiro has never practiced law and has never prosecuted a single criminal case or even argued a case in court. His four years as a Commissioner gives him some minimal management experience but he has never managed a prosecutor’s office. John Morganelli and Stephen Zappala are far more qualified than Josh Shapiro and, the Republican John Rafferty.

The Republican John Rafferty has very limited prosecutorial experience and no administrative experience and is far less qualified than any Democrat.

  5. I dead skunk in the middle of the road with Penndot paint on it could beat Wolf. He will soon be the most disliked Governor in our history. He has no political anything. Worthless as tits on a Boar hog.

  6. Moll-

Josh’s integrity is pretty good (he’s not corrupt).

But, he should also have the integrity not to run for an office he is not remotely qualified to hold due to lack of relevant experience. This is especially true if the office is really just a stepping stone to Gov.

Responsibility needs to take precedence over ambition.

  7. Oh how much fun will be had primary night when the vapid heroes Brian Sims and Josh Shapiro go down. Then they can go back to their tireless, principled work, which consists of ***crickets***….self-promotion?

  8. Whistleblowers – since when are relationships with legislators a prerequisite for being the top law enforcement officer in the State? Seems to me we would want someone who owes them nothing.

  9. What are you people smoking? Josh isn’t gonna beat anyone in ANY primary. No one likes him. He helps no one. Philadelphia can’t stand him and the West resents him. HE HASNT DONE ANYTHING! The level of his arrogance is astonishing. He has worse relationships with legislators than Wolf if that’s even possible. Move forward not back. These old Rendell hacks are not a Fresh Start. It’s embarrassing

  10. The observer below is that juvenile impostor who lives in his mother’s basement.

    Josh who? {Yawn…}

  11. Without commenting on Ms. Fratelli’s credibility, it seems that Ms. Novasky was just a witness. I guess she is a liar too? There seems to be a theme here: anyone who has anything negative to say about Frank Fina gets attacked. Many are claiming the same thing happened to the Attorney General – who seized Fina’s hard drive the day she took office and campaigned on his slow-rolled investigation of Sandusky. Just look at the attacks on the City Counsel members and other leaders who have condemned Fina. They are suggesting that they are all crooked politicians!! It’s absurd. In my opinion – this just help prove what actually happened to Kane. Fina is so used to manipulating the Press and mis-using grand juries when dealing with low-level politicians that he thought he could get away with it when dealing with Kane. It blew up in his face.

  12. @Ha3…Of course criminal defendants or their mistresses (Framelli) always have biased views. You do realize that Manzo got Framelli a tx-payer paid bonus SPECIFICALLY to pay for her boob job. Emails between them were the evidence. Read DeWeese’s appeal. He felt the BOOB job issue had not been examined closely enough by the prosecution!!!! Yep- most people know bias when it hits them in the face.

  13. Republicans in Senate should make sure their guy gets into the Ag’sOffice. Keeping Kane around is his best chance. LOL. I love politics!!

  14. Shapiro could have bided his time and run for governor after Wolf’s 2nd term, which wouldn’t have involved a slap in the face to the voters of MontoCo who re-elected him while he was planning his AG run. He also could have ran for Senate this year, while just as bad – would have at least made more sense. He has no expierence as a prosecutor. If you voted for Shapiro this past November, enjoy watching your county commissioner chair in every part of PA except MontCo.
Shapiro, like everyone, claims to be a different kind of politician, but certainly not when it comes to climbing the ladder. At the very least he could have been honest and admitted in his announcement email that he smelled the blood in the water at Kane’s office and ask that we vote for him for not being under indictment.

  15. DD – Kane can get that 20-25% in Philly alone. Plus – women will hate “Zap.”

Do the women you talk to mention the accounts of these women. The person they are talking about is behind the smear campaign and criminal charges against Kane. One can just imagine him reassuring his white male buddies that he would “get” Kane before she exposed them for the racist creep pervert women-haters they really are.

    1) Sheilah Novasky

She met Frank Fina for the first time while she was waiting to testify before a grand jury in the state’s case against DeWeese. She said she sat in a small room with seven men – including Fina.

Fina repeatedly asked bout two things: How many women on DeWeese’s staff were sleeping with Manzo? And did she know about Frameli’s “breast enhancements”?
Novasky then went before the grand jury. Fina asked her nothing about breasts or Manzo’s sexual relationships.

“I think it was for their own amusement,” Novasky said. “There is a line between intimidation and interrogation and they crossed the lines whenever they concentrated on the sexual antics, which had nothing to do with [the case] …”

    2) Melissa Frameli

Melissa remembers: “Fina was saying that we were exchanging political emails on state time and that it was illegal … It’s pretty sick that they were doing the same thing that they were screaming at us for – and our emails were related to political work, they weren’t degrading toward women or towards men, they weren’t pornographic in nature.”

She recalled that Fina was fixated on her personal relationship with DeWeese’s chief of staff, Michael Manzo, and whether she had spent her bonus money on a “boob job.” He accused her of “whoring around,” unleashing a string of profanity and “F-bombs,” she said. …

“He was completely putting me down and saying I was going to get in trouble for sleeping with my boss. Screaming at me, and saying that I used my bonus to get a boob job and that I was a disgrace, basically . . . I felt very degraded by him. I felt very degraded as a woman.”

  16. CandyCane-

Well, Kane’s license got suspended and she’s still working, and one of the guys who voted to suspend her license is not working. And, the reasons for his suspension have to do with his tainted vote to suspend her license.

I don’t know if gender voting/politics will come into play with Kane running against 5 men, but it’s not impossible.

Kane hasn’t been convicted and there is not even a trial date. Fattah has a trial date (right after the primary).

    Wait, what ? –

“Seamus has plenty of friends” Yeah, but he had those “friends” when he was a sitting judge who could do them favors. He’s retired. It’s not like he didn’t embarrass himself with the emails and wasn’t hoisted with his own petard.
(SpongeBob: note “petard” not “retard”, so don’t get excited)

I don’t disagree with you that there seems to be a lot of movement (or talk of movement) to Zappala. But, I wouldn’t attribute that to revenge against Kane for Seamus.

With 6 candidates in the race, the vote count threshold to win could be as low as 20% to 25%. Though, in the 4-way Gov primary, Wolf got nearly 58% when 35% to 40% was the expected win threshold.

  17. BREAKING NEWS-Shapiro campaign buys a map and a compass so Josh can find his way to a courtroom. Lol. Zero experience in ANY legal capacity is no message Josh. Stay in Norristown and avoid the embarrassment. @ Diano- Seamus has plenty of friends out there. He got over 2million votes and has deep ties to labor and the trial lawyers. They were the same people who helped Kane. Now watch as those groups move to Zappala. In fact, it’s a done deal.

  18. A suspension is not permanent. Not a takedown. Seamus is very tight with DOC. That could be problem.

  19. Looking at the posts, no one here seems to think Josh is qualified for the job, other than he might be able to do a little administrative clean-up (which is doubtful, because by all accounts Josh wants this job as a political stepping stone to Gov). I find this move by Josh to be ridiculous, because his current job as Montco Commissioner is far more appropriate a position to graduate to Gov.

Now that Josh has announced, can PoliticsPA put out a poll asking: “Is Josh Shapiro qualified to be Attorney General?”

One would hope the (entirely predictable) results of such a poll should convince him to abandon this folly.

    CandyCane-

Did you forget Eakin already? He’s been suspended. That’s a take-down too.

I don’t recall Seamus having that many Dem-friends to begin with. I doubt he is high on Kane’s list of worries. She’ll probably get more votes from removing him anyway.

  20. David, she took down one supreme court justice, seamus. She will soon pay for that. Seamus still has plenty of the POWERFUL D Friends. I Want to welcome home my pal bungy from his four month trip to Italy.

  21. He is posturing for the Dems to come to him and say please don’t run and promise him some future office. They won’t do it. DA Zappala is strong and has Philly and Pitt and entire West so where is Josh going to go. Prediction: he will decide “for the good of the party” he will stay in Montco.

  22. Having Kane under a criminal indictment is hardly a strong campaign message. Nice person with no clue.

  23. 5 white men vs one female incumbent. They will all be pretty embarrassed when they lose to Kane.

  24. Say good night Josh – you have no business in this race. You have no experience in a courtroom and you are impatient and you are turning your back on the people of Montgomery County. You could run for Governor on your record as Commissioner in a few years and that is where you should keep your focus – but this race will paint you as a loser.

  25. I like Josh, but I will vote for Kane, before I vote for him. She’s taken down two supreme court judges, and exposed longstanding corruption and inappropriate behavior. Josh isn’t running to make waves. If he wants to be gov, then he should challenge Wolf in 2018. Do some internal polling on that!

    Fed Up in Montco

Not even 11 days. He was sworn in 7 days ago.

But, don’t worry, Josh can serve out his full term after he loses the primary.

    good news-

If the office is a stepping stone for gov, then it is being used.

The candidates have to sign a pledge and put up a million dollar bond (from their personal finances) that they will serve full term and not run for gov

  26. Great news for PA. Corbett used the office to play politics and get Democrats. Kane didn’t understand the office. We need an administrator to run the AG office. The office has never been managed, only used. If you look at Montgomery County Government you will see a real administrator was controlling the county. Josh who I don’t care for personally has been a leader to clean up Montgomery County. I believe he would do the same for the AG office. We need people elected that have both political knowledge and business sense. One without the other are failures. Just look at the current mess we have in Pa. A Governor with No political knowledge. A House and Senate without business sense. WHAT A MESS………..

  27. Zakrey Bissell:

Kevin Boyle is from Philadelphia. Why would he run for commish? I’d think a better choice would be one of the row officers the Dems just elected.

  28. He must already be sick of that moron Joe Gale inserting abortion into county issues after 7 days on the job. Who wouldn’t be? I feel sorry for whoever his replacement is having to not only deal with Val, but with Joe.

  29. Announces 7 days after taking the oath for another 4 years as Montco Commissioner that he’s seeking an office he isn’t qualified for. I sure hope the members of the Democratic Party reject career politician Josh Shapiro!

As others have said, this is just a stepping stone for Governor. At least pick an office to run for where you would be competent. Restore experience and integrity to the Attorney General’s Office, Vote Zappala or Morganelli.

  30. I don’t think for Kevin Boyle or Madeline Dean would be interested is to be the next Montgomery county commission appointment or run for it in 2019.

  31. I’d sooner vote for that dunce Morganelli. Zappala will run away with the race, anyway

  32. If Josh Shapiro wins the Democratic primary and the general election for Attorney General in Pennsylvania in 2016, and I think for Allyson Schwartz or Marjorie Margolies one of the former congresswomen will most likely is to get the appointment is to be the next Montgomery County Commissioner in 2017 is to work with Valerie Arkoosh and Joe Gale as Montgomery County Commissioners from there.

  33. A politician who is just trying to use the job as a stepping stone. Obviously he’s not more qualified than DA Zappala or DA Morganelli. He’s never been a prosecutor.

  34. Only 11 days into his second term as Montgomery County Commissioner. Who did voters really vote for last November when voting for Shapiro? How disingenuous to campaign for that office knowing full well he was planning to hop off to something else.
