BREAKING: Senate to Convene on Tuesday to Confirm Beemer as AG

The State Senators are coming back to Harrisburg.

According to Dennis Owens of ABC27, the upper chamber is set to convene on Tuesday in order to confirm Bruce Beemer as the next Attorney General.

Beemer, a former First Deputy AG and the current Inspector General, was Governor Tom Wolf’s pick as interim Attorney General. Beemer will replace Bruce Castor, who’s been filling the role since Kathleen Kane’s resignation following her criminal conviction.

The State Senate was originally set to return on September 26th.

Owens also revealed that it is quite possible that Beemer is confirmed and sworn this Tuesday.

  2. I have been asked to look at this blog to determine if it is a detriment to the Party or not considering the upcoming Presidential election and the importance this state will play. To be fair I also asked a co-worker to do the same. I’m sure we are giving the Republicans ammunition to attack us and attack us they will. Just some of the things posted; anti police, members having been arrested, threatening each other, and having people arrested. This is not the image we should be betraying. Can the political rhetoric just be toned down along with the name calling etc.In the few short posts I’ve reviewed we could be portrayed as anti police, anti gay, anti woman, anti law enforcement (prosecutions), support of convicted criminals and especially anti children with mental or physical infirmities. Make no mistake about it The republicans will pick choose and edit what they see hear and you’ll be identified as the pulse of the Democratic Party. This election is just too important to lose.

  3. DD – Please just ignore the mental patient. Please! It kills him as he has no one to talk to in real life. We all know you out-class him. No need to prove it for the 2,000th time.

  4. @ d4:

Care to refute any of this?

The key issues facing Bruce Beemer

    BY BRAD BUMSTED | Saturday, Aug. 27, 2016, 9:00 p.m.

    HARRISBURG

    Now the clean-up effort begins.

Bruce Beemer, a former Allegheny County prosecutor, was nominated by Gov. Tom Wolf and likely will be confirmed by the Senate to serve as attorney general through the remaining four-plus months of convicted felon Kathleen Kane’s term.

Beemer’s the right guy. He knows the office having worked for former Attorney General Linda Kelly and then for Kane, most recently as first deputy. Beemer, now Wolf’s inspector general, testified against Kane at grand juries and was on her you-know-what-list while still in the AG’s office. She froze him out. She hired now-acting Attorney General Bruce Castor as solicitor general in March to have an experienced attorney she could count on for legal decisions and to further isolate Beemer. Kane’s law license was suspended last October after she’d been charged with crimes. A Montgomery County jury convicted her Aug. 15 of perjury, obstruction of justice and official oppression.

Castor is viewed by many as a Kane operative, which he denies.

Beemer was not a rebel in the AG’s office. He chose his battles carefully. He had the respect of most prosecutors and agents. He is a quiet leader.

    Some key issues he’ll face:

    • Putting the brakes on more taxpayer dollars flowing to BuckleySandler, the Washington, D.C., law firm Kane hired to do an investigation of pornographic and otherwise offensive emails crossing AG servers. Former Maryland Attorney General Douglas Gansler, of the same firm, has said the firm could be paid up to $2 million for the work. The tab now is nearly $900,000.

Expect the report soon. Is there a rush to get it out before Beemer takes over?

    • Whether to fire Kane’s former bodyguard and confidant, Patrick Reese, who snooped on office employees’ emails to obtain information about the grand jury investigating her. Reese was convicted in a bench trial last December of indirect contempt of court. Under office policy, being charged with a crime should result in a suspension. But Reese has remained on staff at a salary of almost $100,000 a year. If that weren’t enough, Kane’s former political consultant Joshua Morrow testified at her trial that when he went to visit Kane, Reese took him to a parking garage. He confiscated his keys and cellphone. He then used an electronic device to make sure he wasn’t wired. It requires probable cause to detain and search someone.

    • Whether to fire Jonathan Duecker, another Kane acolyte, who was promoted to acting chief of staff by Kane. An agency personnel official recommended that Duecker be fired due to two sexual harassment complaints. The AG’s office recently settled the lawsuit filed by former Human Resources official George Moore over his firing. He received a $150,000 settlement package.

  5. Sad-

Kane is the best AG we’ve ever had. What is “sad” it that her enemies were willing to destroy the office to take her down.

  6. At this point I dont care who the AG is in Pa. After Kane it will take a generation to repair the damage she did to the state’s reputation.

  7. Brett, can you spell the following? Theft, Trial, Prison, Fina laughing (goes between Trial & Prison), large men, Nutsy. I left out the harder words because you already know about hard.Have a great weekend Baldy.

  8. I want to know the “TUTH” about who sent what e-mails. This better not be a last-ditch effort to try to keep the Report under wraps.

  9. If I may, perhaps the amateur psychologists may wish to back-off; whether or not Bruce was to be dissed, or whether or not he’s in hysterics, he will have served ably [even as a place-holder] in a position he cudda handled ably under differing circumstances, over the decades.

  10. Roger – This is getting crazy. They are playing games. If prosecutors and judges were swapping inappropriate material, then the defendants they sent to jail have a right to know.

If government employees at an Office that prosecutes people for mis-using State computers were mis-using their State computers – they need to be held accountable the same way they held others accountable.

They are going to continue to hide behind “grand jury secrecy.” That will be Bedmer’s “explanation.” But it won’t work.

  11. Anyone else think it is ironic that the senate hyper drive confirmation will result in getting Castor off the hook and leaving the personnel mess and Gansler steaming pile of dung on Beemer’s desk? This is one of this “careful what you wish for” things…senate wanted Castor out so bad, it came back from recess a month early allowing Castor to neatly sidestep this scandal. Beemer can’t win. As long as the report remains unknown, anyone’s name could be in it. Release it, hundreds of people instantly hate him. Edit it, and he’s covering up. Somewhere, Castor is laughing.

  12. Wow. What’s the rush? No hearings..no questions about the Gansler report..nothing. Just a vote. What is everyone trying to hide? And why the hate for Castor?

  13. Maybe now we can see Ellen Granahan’s involvement with the emails and why Kathy Kane protected her. Ellen, the unindicted co-conspirator, may have some problems coming.

  14. But, Frank Little, now that I think about it, what’s it like getting kicked out of the PA bar? Kane got suspended, but my boy Fina is still on top of his game.

  15. Sorry – I meant “Fina”

Hey Frank Fina, you’re a loser. What do you do when you’re not engaged in frivolous litigation?

  16. Hey Frank Little, you’re a loser. What do you do when you’re not engaged in frivolous litigation?

  17. It is possible that the GOP-controlled Senate is expressing annoyance @ Bruce for relating with KK…or it is probable that the Commonwealth’s representatives are doing their job; either way, the responsible course has been chosen by demonstrating the capacity to “move on.”

  18. Or have something really bad they are afraid Castor will find. Perhaps we are saying the same thing.

  19. They must really hate Bruce Castor that they could not wait a month to dump him. And even interrupt their summer vacations. WOW!!!.
