By The Numbers: September Voter Registration

Closing the gap … ever so slightly.

Two months ago, Democrats held a 480,000 advantage over Republicans in voter registration in the Commonwealth. Today, that lead has shrunk by 30,000.

The latest voter registration numbers are in from the Department of State and while it may appear that the GOP is on the rise – the real story is the increasing number of independents around the state.

Republicans saw a rise over the past two months of about 3,300 to their ranks, while Democrats dropped about 4,000. Independents rose by over 9,000 and are getting closer to the 1 million mark (939,102).
