2:29 p.m. Cartwright CM Seaver:
“No major developments. Spirits are high, we have about 60 volunteers on the phones and the doors throughout the district plus poll greeters. The weather is holding strong, the sun is out. We have seen an uptick in turnout from this morning and expect it to continue through the evening.”
12:25 p.m. PoliticsPA spoke with Shane Seaver, Matt Cartwright’s campaign manager. He said:
Overall update: “We received a positive response. Eight hours left but we’re optimistic at this point.”
Turnout: “From the numbers we’ve been receiving, the morning had a nice turn out,” Seaver said. “We have gotten about 30-40% turnout. Contacted about 20,000-30,000 voters this weekend. And will be contacting more later this evening. You have some very educated voters who will come out no matter what the election is. The weather is looking good.”
He explained they’d done about 16k contacts via phones and doors, plus 17k live paid calls over the past 3 days.
12:00: From Eric Nagy, Holden’s campaign manager:
It’s still very early, but everything we’re hearing at the polls is positive. Our campaign feels very good. Turnout is still in the single digits percentage-wise, though things should pick up in the evening. Weather, depending on the severity, could certainly play a factor in turnout.

No, Dan…
YOU DO NOT COMPROMISE WITH PEOPLE WHO WON’T BUDGE AN INCH.
And that is the definition of today’s Republicans. They do not know how to COMPROMISE…only how to bully and take hostages.
For example, recently Republicans are holding VAWA hostage to other things they want. Or, a little while back Eric Cantor endorsed holding back emergency aid to victims of Hurricane Irene…until he got certain cuts in other places that the Republicans wanted….let me be very clear…
CANTOR TOOK SUFFERING PEOPLE – SUFFERING FROM A NATURAL DISASTER…HOSTAGE…IN ORDER TO GET CUTS HE WANTED….THOSE ARE THE ACTIONS OF A BULLY AND A COWARD, AND CANTOR IS THE DEFINING MEMBER OF THE REPUBLICAN PARTY…THE REST OF THEM ARE JUST LIKE HIM.
You do NOT compromise with bullies.
Without compromise there is no progress. Partisan politics is what is bringing our country down right now. Holden was a good representative who voted along party lines but also wasn’t afraid to jump ship for the sake of his views. I am a registered democrat, but I understand the value that bipartisanship had. Your definition of “caving in” is misconstrued. It’s working together that is the correct term and necessary interpretation in order for progress to be made.
By the way, Tom…I hope one of the quoates attributed to Cratwright by Holden is true…”You don’t compromise with people like that!”
What Cartwright was referring to is that you don’t compromise with Republicans who do not know the first thing about compromise. We finally have a Democrat who won’t CAVE IN to the Republicans!!
By the way, Tom…the previous 17th District was FAR REDDER than the new 17th.
This is why Holden was such a blue dog traitor to the Democratic Party.
He voted against Obamacare, he voted against closing the Halliburton Loophole, he took hundreds of thousands from Wall Street.
Doesn’t sound like the kind of guy I could support.
Maybe YOU like your well water poisoned, and having no healthcare when you get sick because of it.
Tom, in case you did not know it…I AM A CITIZEN OF THE 17TH DISTRICT. And Cartwright will be representing ME!! He definitely is more in line with my political ideology than Holden. You are an obvious Republican who is eating sour grapes right now.
Happy retirement, ex-congressman Holden!!
CARTWRIGHT WINS!!!!
Yea, me..I finally have a Congressman who ACTUALLY DOES represent ME!!!
Angela–Tim Holden has faithfully represented the will of the 17th district every single year he has been in office.
Compare that to Cartwright who claims he’ll go to DC and what he wants, NOT what the 17th district wants.
So I guess you think Cartwright is above his constitutional duites to represent the people of his district.
I would vigorously disagree with you.
Tom
Suits me fine. I hope Holden loses…who needs or wants a blue-dog Democrat anyway? Who needs an undercover Republican? Voted against Obamacare, against closing the Halliburton loophole…no, we need a REAL Democrat like Cartwright, who I was proud to vote for. I’m just glad I get to dump Barletta…THANK YOU REDISTRICTING!!!
Thanks to redistricting, I no longer have to put up with Tea Party buttwipe Barletta.
The Republicans didn’t “intend to make the district bluer” –they just had to have a place to park all the Dems they moved out of Barletta’s District.
This is what happens in redistricting. All the centrists are pushed out in districts that are made more partisan. Not that I like Holden but this is what the Republicans intended when they made his district so much bluer.
