Matt Cartwright plays economic populist in his latest television ad. In a pair of quirky, 30-second spots, the Lackawanna County attorney running for Congress against Rep. Tim Holden pokes fun at tax breaks for corporations.
“If corporations can claim this as a business expense, don’t you think that working families ought to get the same tax break for their child care?” he asks in the above ad, titled “Jet.”
Likewise, if businesses can write off limousines, restaurant bills and office furniture, Cartwright asks why a woman who retrofit a home for her elderly mother can’t get the same.
“I’m Matt Cartwright. Send me to Congress, and I’ll work for you.”
Although he is challenging an 18-year incumbent, redistricting has afforded Cartwright the luxury of being able to define himself and save negative ads against Holden for later. About 80 percent of the district is new to the incumbent.
The spots will air in a similar rotation as Cartwright’s first ad, though more frequently a campaign source said. The first ad ran on broadcast and cable in Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, and WFMZ in Easton. All three were produced by David Brown, of David Brown and Associates.
Here’s the second ad, “Limo”:

^Yes indeed he was. Take a look at this morning call article titles “More Often Than Not, Bush Could Count On Holden” http://articles.mcall.com/2002-12-16/news/3427901_1_holden-pennsylvania-democrats-voting-record
Your telling me Holden’s a democrat?
Tim Holden was George W. Bush’s favorite Democrat.
expanding tax deductions is de facto lowering taxes. lower taxes mean lower costs and a higher standard of living for all.
And he can’t be worse than Big Government Tim Holden.
^Very Funny, Holden Staffer. You don’t even know Matt. Anyone who does knows this isn’t true. Good thing most people know Matt, and know nothing about your corrupt Boss, Tim Holden.
The only time he’s a “man of the people” is when he’s chasing ambulances and trying to win the personal injury lottery with juries.
Seems like a nice guy. Good ideas!
Matt’s sure making himself stick out! Very nice job David.
I’m a fan.
