Not going Republican this year.
Rep. Matt Cartwright (D-Lackawanna) wins reelection in the newly drawn 8th district over Republican challenger John Chrin.
Cartwright won 55-45 with 99% of the precincts reported.
The newly drawn district in Northeast Pennsylvania went to President Trump by nearly 10 points in 2016, although the Democrat is victorious once again.
Chrin often tried to tag Cartwright to the progressive wing of the Democratic Party and Rep. Nancy Pelosi. Cartwright steadily distanced himself from Pelosi, stating he would not vote for her for Speaker of the House, and attacked Chrin on residency.
Cartwright’s lead in public polls started to widen in recent weeks, although this was one of the rare seats the NRCC was actively trying to flip in an other favorable year for Democrats.

So is Chrin gonna sell the 3 addresses and slither back across the 80 bridge?
Chrin did fool everyone with these boilerplate cooked up in DC issues like “sanctuary cities” that had nothing to do with the district and were meant to divide. The problem is it was a bogus issue in this district from the get go. What do people care about? Healthcare. Social Security. Chrin is going to be fine despite losing millions of his own money in this race but there are many who don’t have his resources and live on the financial margins where the real issues like effective healthcare matter.
oops..sorry for the typo…in the first sentence should be “did not”…
