Casey Defeats Smith to Win Re-Election

An up and down re-election bid for Senator Bob Casey ends in a victory for the freshman Senator.

He overcame GOP hopeful Tom Smith by a wide margin, 53-44, as it stands at 2:20 am.

Casey, who was criticized for running a somewhat lackadaisical campaign, saw his massive lead in the polls shrink thanks to a strong campaign fundraising effort by Smith.  But in the end, Casey stepped up his efforts on the trail, and came away victorious.

“My congratulations tonight goes to Senator Casey,” said Smith.  “While we disagree on some things, we both care deeply for this country and believe America’s best days are ahead of her.”

“My family and I are humbled and grateful for the support of millions of Pennsylvanians.  And though we fell short tonight, we will continue to advocate for the principles of limited government, fiscal responsibility and individual liberty.”

  1. Yes Bryan, Casey obviously rode the coat tails of the guy who received fewer votes in Pennsylvania.

  2. Presidential coattails — Casey was no doubt helped by the Democratic President at the top of the ticket in Democratic-leaning Pennsylvania.

    Not very surprising, though.

  3. Casey’s win was huge – even his best polling results didn’t tout him at 9%. And jokes like Wenzel and Susquehanna look even more ridiculous than they did two days ago when they were falling over each other to “unskew” the “over sampled” polls.
