Coming to a stage near you this fall – three debates between U.S. Sen. Bob Casey Jr. and Republican challenger Dave McCormick – we think.
While nothing has been formally determined, both candidates released statements on Thursday that they would agree to three debates – one in Philadelphia, one in Pittsburgh and one in Harrisburg.
Casey, the three-term incumbent, opened the bidding with a news release.
“Today, Senator Casey announced his intention to participate in three debates this Fall — one each in Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, and Harrisburg — ahead of the November 5 general election.
In keeping with Pennsylvania’s proud history of political debates, Senator Casey is ready to make his case for re-election and looks forward to engaging his opponent on the issues that matter to the Commonwealth.”
McCormick wasted little time with his response in a tweet reply to the post from PoliticsPA.
Glad to hear it. See you there. https://t.co/u1kp7QFG6w

In 2022, Democrat John Fetterman and Republican Mehmet Oz only participated in one general election debate. In 2018, during Casey’s most recent successful bid for U.S. Senate, he debated GOP challenger U.S. Rep. Lou Barletta twice before the general election.
Both candidates have embarked on bus trips in an effort to kick-start their general election campaigns. Casey is promoting his U.S. Senate record on his ‘On Our Side Road Trip,’ while McCormick has joined the rest of the GOP ticket on a ‘Fight For Pennsylvania’s Future’ caravan.
The race will one of the most closely-watched races in the country, as well as one of the most expensive, as each campaign reported raising over $5 million in the last cycle.
