“With all of these challenges confronting us, and with our commonwealth playing a potentially decisive role in the 2020 vote, I believed it was important for me to at least consider the monumental undertaking of running for president,” Casey said. “After two months of considering it, I have concluded that the best way for me to fight for the America that so many of us believe in is to stay in the U.S. Senate.”
Chatter about a possible presidential run began after an NBC News interview in which Casey didn’t deny considering seeking the Oval Office stating “we’ll see what happens” a week after notching his third victory for the Senate.
Casey acknowledged in an interview with PoliticsPA at PA Society that “there are stages to running” and a decision had to be made early in 2019.
The Senior Senator from Pennsylvania has said in various interviews that he expects a crowded field of candidates on the Democratic side for 2020 and although finishing 2018 seeing a rise in net approval rating, the time wasn’t right for him to run. He stated that he has “no doubt” that the Democratic Party will nominate a candidate who can win Pennsylvania and take back the White House.
Casey officially began his third term in the Senate earlier this month.

This was always a non-starter. Bob is a nice guy, and a fit for Pennsylvania, but he’s got no appeal or recognition outside of the state. He’s a very popular state figure, he’s not a national figure.
