Updated With Video: Casey to Release First Ad

Update: The ad, “Armor,” has been unveiled. The 30-second spot features the Senator alone – no announcer, no voice-over, explaining one of his more popular stances: that more products should be made in America.

“Steel. Made in America. That’s the steel that should be protecting U.S. servicemen and -women overseas,” he said. “But our own Defense Department changed the rules, allowing countries like china to supply steel-armored plate for our military vehicles, tanks and equipment.”

An accompanying email said that the Senator acted when the Defense Department allowed for foreign-made steel to be used in armor plate. “ In response, the Department of Defense has now reversed course to ensure this steel is now ‘Made in the U.S.A.’”

Casey's ad capitalizes on pro-American made sentiment, and constituents' backing of the steel industry.

Casey ends the ad by saying that using home-grown products is “how we create jobs, grow Pennsylvania’s steel industry and keep our soldiers safe.”

The new campaign website also hosts the ad, and asks supporters to donate and help keep it on the air.

Senator Bob Casey will release his first ad of the campaign season tonight.

Credit to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette for breaking the story:

The local Fox affiliate WPGH-TV posted a document showing the Democrat’s campaign has bought a few low-priced spots from today through Monday. They may have bought on other broadcast Pittsburgh stations too (KDKA, WPXI, WTAE) but they haven’t as yet uploaded any political files.

The buy is relatively small, and will only air in the Pittsburgh media market.  The release of this ad will fall on the same day that the Casey campaign revealed a new website and Twitter account.

Casey’s opponent, Tom Smith, has been on TV for a week now, with an ad airing across all of Pennsylvania. Smith will spend $200K per week for airtime.

Casey’s buy is much smaller in comparison to Smith’s, however, the incumbent Senator still enjoys a healthy lead in the polls over his challenger.

Stay tuned for more information once the ad is released.
