Casey Team Dominates Toomey in DC Softball

Casey Toomey loresDespite partisanship in the nation’s capital, Republicans and Democrats can still play ball in Washington – at least in the literal sense.

Senators Bob Casey and Pat Toomey faced off on Tuesday evening, but not on the floor of the U.S. Senate.

The two, in the spirit of Pennsylvania tradition, led opposing softball teams in a game played on the National Mall in front of the Capitol in DC, the Philadelphia Inquirer’s CapitolInq blog reports.

The teams consisted of staffers, aides, friends and family, including Toomey’s son, Patrick III.

Casey’s team, “Scrantonicity” (a nod to Kevin’s band in ‘The Office’), dominated the Republican’s team, “Hit It Toomey”, in a 20-10 victory. It’s the first time Casey’s team has won. Team Toomey took the 2011 and 2012 matchups.

  1. “It’s the first time since the first game in 2011 that Casey’s team won” is a pretty awful sentence. Wouldn’t that make Casey’s team 2-1 overall? You make it seem like they’ve been in the cellar forever.
