Chester County GOP endorses Terence Farrell for second term
West Chester_ The Republican Committee of Chester County on Tuesday, February 15th, endorsed Chester County Chairman Terence Farrell for a second, four-year term as county Commissioner.
“I am honored by the confidence the Republican Committee people have shown in their nominating me to lead the GOP ticket in 2011. We have a great team of endorsed Republican candidates and, together, we will win in November,” Farrell said. “I’m looking forward to continuing to serve the citizens of Chester County for four more years. For the past three years, I have worked to make sure our residents receive the best possible services at a fair cost.
“We have saved taxpayers money while governing responsibly,” the Commissioner added. Chester County’s three Triple-A bond ratings have saved the taxpayers more than $10 million dollars to date. “The demand for county services is growing while the state plans to cut funding for our programs, so we have streamlined county government to become more efficient. Going forward, we will prioritize, downsize and privatize services when it makes sense for our citizens.”
“I’m also looking forward to serving with fellow Republican Ryan Costello as Commissioner.” Costello was also endorsed by the Republican committee on Tuesday evening. Costello will be sworn-in as Commissioner to serve the remainder of Carol Aichele’s term. She was recently appointed Secretary of the Commonwealth.
Farrell began his term as Commissioner on January 7, 2008. Under his leadership, the board advanced its development of a strategic plan to increase efficiency in the county’s operations, passed two balanced budgets without raising taxes and reaffirmed the county’s award-winning land-use program.
The county has received numerous awards for its superior quality of life. In addition, under Farrell’s oversight, the county installed online streaming video of the Commissioners’ public meetings to increase government transparency. Commissioner Farrell believes we must meet the fiscal challenges imposed by reductions in state and federal funding to the county, while still providing the quality of services our citizens have come to expect in an accountable, responsible manner.
Previously, Farrell served two terms as Chester County Recorder of Deeds. His leadership is credited with bringing the Recorder’s office into the 21st century. A modern recording and imaging system was put into place in the Recorder’s office that, for the first time, provided internet access to public records.
Farrell has strong Chester County roots, having grown up on the campus of Lincoln University, where his parents were professors. He has two adult sons, and one granddaughter. Farrell and his wife, Theresa, currently reside in the Borough of West Chester.
