Cohn Jubelirer Declares Candidacy for PA Supreme Court Seat

Cohn JubelirerPennsylvania Commonwealth Court Judge Renee Cohn Jubelirer has declared her candidacy for one of the three open seats on the Pennsylvania Supreme Court.

Cohn Jubelirer was first elected to Commonwealth Court in 2001 and retained her position in 2011. She is currently seeking endorsement from the Republican Party of Pennsylvania for one of the aforementioned seats.

The nearly 13-year veteran of the court will offer an experienced option with over 30 years of working in law.

“I have authored more than 1,600 opinions in cases that affect individuals, businesses and communities,” said Cohn Jubelirer. “I have also had the privilege of collaborating with fellow members of the bench, bar and judicial administration on committees and in working groups in an effort to make the resolution of legal disputes more efficient and fair.”

But experience means nothing without rectitude and impartiality.

“We need to elect judges to the Supreme Court with impeccable integrity, judicial temperament and experience,” she continued. “Each day, I strive to conduct myself in a way that inspires confidence in the judiciary and respect for the judicial process. I do not believe it is the role of judges to legislate from the bench, but rather to apply the law impartially and fairly. I endeavor to give every case well-informed, individualized and thorough attention in order to meet the highest standards of impartiality, independence and knowledge.”

In May 2014, Cohn Jubelirer received her master’s degree in judicial studies from Duke University Law School after being one of 18 judges selected internationally to attend the rigorous academic program.

“Treating those who come before the court with respect and patience, I understand that I am a public servant, elected to serve the people,” she concluded.

Disclosure: Renee Cohn Jubelirer is the step-mother of Jeff Jubelirer, a part-owner of PoliticsPA.

  1. Good call Bob. The Central Caucus chose NOT to endorse her in a “straw poll.” I think she will drop out if she doesn’t get the endorsement. I was at the meeting and there were some impressive candidates, but in my opinion the best candidate did not get the straw endorsement either because certain people were lobbying for their “buddies.” It’s amazing the back door deals that happen………

  2. Agreed, not a good candidate because of her “name.” Unfortunately, that’s politics. I know the central caucus will send her a message today that she will not be endorsed by the Republican Party.

  3. Her husband will be her downfall. She should drop his last name and she might have a chance. I don’t see her competing in this race. There is no way the Republican Party will back her….nor should they!

  4. There is nothing in her statement about any experience in criminal law????? Or is there just a civil division in supreme court she would run for?
