The American Action Network (AAN)is launching television ads calling on Congressman Ryan Costello (R-Chester) and Brian Fitzpatrick (R-Bucks) to support tax reform.
The ads are part of a national ad buy from AAN calling for tax reform that “brings back the middle class.” AAN is spending $2.5 million nationally, including six figures in each of the districts.
“We are committed to standing up for Americans who have been left behind by our broken tax code, and sharing real stories to raise awareness on how jobs have fled to countries like China. It’s time for Congress to act and defend hard-working Americans and their families across the country,” AAN Executive Director Corry Bliss said in a release announcing the national buy.
The ads focus on a former metal worker named Albert who lost his job that supported his family after he was laid off because his employer could not compete with foreign competition. The ads end with a call to action asking viewers to “Tell [Member of Congress], keep fighting for tax reforms that brings the middle class back.”
The ad is more of a way to encourage the conservative base to unify behind tax reform, rather than attacking the Congressmen.
In an Op-Ed, Fitzpatrick argues for a tax plan that will “increase take-home pay for hardworking Americans by reducing the number of tax brackets and cutting individual rates” and to simplify the tax code down from the current 70,000 pages.
Update: Costello’s campaign responded to the ad, pointing to his push to simplify the tax code and ensuring the federal property tax deduction.
“Congressman Costello has been a leading advocate for tax reform in Congress to make the U.S. more attractive and competitive for long-term job growth, as well as simplifying the tax code for families and businesses to reduce costs of compliance. He is also committed to protecting the federal property tax deduction so Pennsylvanians aren’t double taxed on their income, and preserving charitable deductions to organizations doing important work across the country,” Costello campaign senior adviser Vincent Galko said in a statement.
