Cook Political Report released updated rankings for Congressional races, including Pennsylvania’s 7th Congressional district.
The Report updated the seat from ‘likely Republican’ to ‘lean Republican.’ Congressman Pat Meehan (R-Delaware) is the incumbent in the seat.
“Meehan, a former federal prosecutor and Delaware County DA, hasn’t faced a credible or well-funded opponent since he first won this seat in the 2010 wave, but that’s likely to change in 2018. Hillary Clinton won this district 49 percent to 47 percent in 2016, and although Meehan voted against the AHCA, Democrats will try to attack him for voting to advance the healthcare repeal package in committee,” the Cook Political Report wrote.
Sabato’s Crystal Ball changed the rating for the district to ‘lean Republican’ in late July.
The news will likely be used to help boost fundraising for Democratic candidates in the district to show they are building momentum in the race.

Wow. Look at the shape of that district.
It is in the top five most gerrymandered districts in the US. And I think pretty high up among them. Shameful.
Are the Democrats running a candidate that lives in the district yet?
I agree Rep. Meehan’s seat could be more vulnerable than in prior years, but not with the candidates currently in the race. Too much inexperience, paired with not living in the district. Rep. Meehan has too much knowledge and history with the voters and businesses in the district to be beaten by someone who could be viewed as an outsider.
With the crazy shape of this Goofy Kicking Donald district, how can anyone know whether they live in it or not ? #FairDistrictsPA
They have a crowded D primary of lightweishts and D’s don’t turn out in off year races….Meehan will win by 7-8 points.
Kind of like how they didn’t show up in 2006 and Pres. Bush kept his party’s majorities in Congress? Crazy how Sen. Santorum still won’t admit that his Penn Hills house is a sham and continues his crusade against women working outside the home and gay marriage, and yet keeps getting re-elected. Some day Dems will get their act together and finally win some mid-term elections.
I wished of they rated this contest as a toss up or lean democratic or likely democratic.
