Corbett Refuses to Remove Extremist from Transition Team, Stacks Team with Marcelles Lobbyists
PA Dems Call on Corbett to Investigate Conflicts of Interests on the Team; Renew Call to Remove Extremist

Harrisburg, PA – Tom Corbett hasn’t even been sworn in as Governor yet, but already his decisions are raising serious questions about his judgment. Tom Corbett’s transition team, filled with corporate special interests lobbyists and even extremists who practice hate speech, has ignited controversy. But Tom Corbett has flat out refused to remove an extremist with a history of divisive and inflammatory speech while stacking his transition team with Marcelles lobbyists and corporate special interests who stand to profit from Corbett’s refusal to hold the energy industry accountable.

“Tom Corbett’s arrogance and poor judgment is shocking. He stacked his transition team with Marcelles lobbyists and corporate special interests, and he is refusing to remove an extremist with a history of hate speech from his team,” said Mark Nicastre, a spokesman with the Pennsylvania Democratic Party. “Pennsylvanians deserve better from their next Governor. They need to know that the team who is responsible for guiding Corbett’s administration has the right priorities and proper judgment, which is clearly not the case now. Corbett should remove Ana Puig from his team, and investigate the clear conflicts of interests that are present on the team especially between his donors and the Marcelles lobbyists on his transition team.”

Corbett Refuses to Remove Extremist with History of Hate Speech. “Gov.-elect Tom Corbett won’t heed Democrats’ calls to get rid of a member of his transition team who has called President Obama a Marxist whose “plan goes beyond communism.”… Ana Puig gained prominence in the past two years through a Bucks County Tea Party group she helps lead. Corbett appointed Puig, a Brazilian-born naturalized citizen, as a member of his education committee. In April, she told an Internet radio host that she “completely” agreed with his assertion that liberals are “in alliance with radical Islam.”” (Pittsburgh Tribune-Review)

Corbett Defends Transition Team Member Who Practices Hate Speech. “You might recall the state Democratic Party’s call for Republican Gov.-elect Tom Corbett to remove Ana Puig, the co-chair of a group called the Kitchen Table Patriots, from his 400-plus member transition team. The Democrats said Puig has made “hateful, extreme and inflammatory” comments about President Barack Obama. Corbett spokesman Kevin Harley has told the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review that the team includes more than 400 people who have “varying political beliefs. Some of them Tom Corbett supports, and some of them he does not. Not everybody on the transition team supported Tom Corbett.”” (Capitol Punmanship)

Corbett panel includes Marcellus lobbyists. “The committee advising Gov.-elect Tom Corbett on environmental and energy issues includes several prominent lobbyists who represent Marcellus Shale drilling firms…They include Peter Gleason of Kirkpatrick & Lockhart Gates who represents Cabot Oil & Gas Corp. and Chesapeake Appalachia, two firms active in Northeast Pennsylvania, according to lobbyist disclosure reports with the Department of State. Cabot is at odds with DEP over whether the company’s natural gas drilling is responsible for water supply contamination in Dimock Twp.” (Citizen’s Voice)
