Critz: Time is running out to submit Stop Loss Payment Claims

JOHNSTOWN, PA — Congressman Mark S. Critz (PA-12) is reminding constituents that the deadline to submit a claim for stop loss special pay is October 21, 2010, and is encouraging those that qualify for this benefit to apply immediately.

The 2009 War Supplemental Appropriations Act established Retroactive Stop Loss Special Pay (RSLSP), providing $500 for each month/partial month served in stop loss status.  Service members, veterans, and beneficiaries of servicemembers whose service was involuntarily extended under Stop Loss between Sept. 11, 2001 and Sept. 30, 2009 are eligible for RSLSP.  The average benefit is $3,700, and there is still money left to be claimed.

To receive this benefit, those who served under stop loss must submit a claim for the special pay.

“Stop-loss orders disrupted the lives of nearly 185,000 servicemembers and their families,” stated Critz.  “It was Congressman Murtha who fought to provide the funding for this special pay, and I’m encouraging all those who qualify to submit a claim immediately so that they can be rightfully compensated for their service.”

General Procedure:

Individuals who meet eligibility criteria may submit an application between October 21, 2009 and October 21, 2010.

Eligible members should print, complete and sign Department of Defense Form 2944, Claim for Retroactive Stop Loss Payment (http://www.dtic.mil/whs/directives/infomgt/forms/eforms/dd2944.pdf).
