Pennsylvania’s Austin Davis has been named vice chair of the Democratic Lieutenant Governors Association (DLGA).
The DLGA is an organization solely focused on electing Democratic lieutenant governors and candidates each year across the United States.
“With one of the most important elections ahead of us, I’m excited to continue the DLGA’s work to elect public servants who are committed to keeping our communities safe and creating ladders of opportunity for every American, no matter where they live or what they look like,” Davis said in a statement.
“This year, the DLGA will stay laser-focused on electing leaders who advocate for what we believe in – fighting for working-class and middle-class families, addressing the epidemic of gun violence and protecting our freedom to make our own reproductive decisions.”
The group also serves as the Democratic Party’s bench, and are the most diverse group of elected officials in the country, as 75 percent of Democratic lieutenant governors are women or people of color.
Minnesota Lt. Governor Peggy Flanagan was tabbed as the DLGA chair. Joining Davis on the group’s executive committee are Michigan Lt. Gov. Garlin Gilchrist and Wisconsin Lt. Governor Sara Rodriguez.
“Democratic LGs are the most diverse group of elected officials in the country — 75% are women or people of color – and my election marks the first time a Native woman will ever chair a national party committee,” said Flanagan, who is a member of the White Earth Band of Ojibwe, in a statement.
“The DLGA has ambitious goals in 2024, including flipping the North Carolina LG’s office blue, and uplifting the work of my fellow Democratic LGs — who represent our party’s rich and talented bench of leaders.”
