The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) has added a pair of Pennsylvania candidates to its “Red to Blue” campaign in an attempt to flip the majority in the House of Representatives.
Ashley Ehasz and Janelle Stelson were included in the campaign that equips candidates with organizational and fundraising support to help them continue to run campaigns in districts that Democrats hope to flip.
Ehasz is challenging Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick in PA-01 in Bucks and Montgomery counties. An Army combat veteran, she wants to codify Roe v. Wade and supports H.R. 3755 which is the Women’s Health Protection Act. Ehasz fully supports the Second Amendment and the right for citizens to securely keep arms for self-defense, recreation, and hunting, but backs universal background checks. She also supports policies to fight climate change and turn the threat into jobs and investment across the state.
“Ashley Ehasz has always fought for our fundamental freedoms and was willing to lay her life on the line to defend our democracy,” said DCCC Chair Rep. Suzan DelBene (D-Wash.). “At a time when anti-abortion extremists like Brian Fitpatrick are bending the knee to Donald Trump in pursuit of a national abortion ban, Pennsylvanians deserve a leader like Ashley who will codify Roe v. Wade and protect a woman’s right to choose.”
“Being part of the DCCC’s Red to Blue program shows that the path to flipping the House, defending democracy, and protecting our reproductive freedom runs through Pennsylvania’s First,” said Ehasz. “In Congress, I’ll fight for our freedom and our right to choose, just as I did in the Army.”
Stelson is facing Rep. Scott Perry in PA-10 in Cumberland, Dauphin and York counties. A former television broadcast journalist, she also wants to ensure the protections guaranteed under Roe and make them again the law of the land. Stelson backs an increase in Pennsylvania’s minimum wage and prioritizing the education of children, making sure that teachers and others in the educational system have the pay and respect they deserve.
“Janelle Stelson dedicated her career to telling people’s stories,” said DelBene. “She knows what matters to Central Pennsylvanians is not what out-of-touch extremists like Scott Perry care about. Perry is focused on outlawing IVF, passing a national abortion ban, and overthrowing our democracy. He has always put his dangerous extremism ahead of his constituents. I look forward to Janelle winning this race so that Pennsylvania’s 10th Congressional district can once again have real representation.”
“I have been listening to and advocating for Central Pennsylvanians for decades and it is time we had a member of Congress who represents all of us, not just the fringe of one party,” said Stelson. “I am proud to be added to the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee’s Red to Blue program in my campaign to defeat career politician Scott Perry in November and restore commonsense leadership to Central Pennsylvania.”
