DCCC Hammers Rothfus on Colombia Trade (Watch Video)

Tuesday, another ad was released by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, featuring man-on-the-street style testimonials attacking Keith Rothfus on free trade.

Rothfus faces Rep. Mark Critz (D-Cambria) in one of the nation’s top congressional races.

Airing in PA-12, the spot begins with tracker footage of Rothfus saying, “I believe in free trade. I think I see a country like Colombia, who has been making tremendous strides.”

As the ad progresses, normal-seeming people say, “What about Pennsylvania?” and “We’ve got entire towns shut down because of free trade,” and “Why doesn’t he go down there and run for office in Colombia?”

The advertisement, by including a direct quote from Rothfus, gives the DCCC a more solid attack than its last time out.

In its previous attack, the DCCC stated that, “Keith Rothfus worked for a law firm that had a ‘strategic alliance’ with a Chinese firm.” Which urged Rothfus and other Republicans to jump on the defensive, ensuring that, “Rothfus worked as a junior associate at a law firm in 1993, but left just a few weeks after the firm partnered with another law firm in China.” That compelled the DCCC to edit the ad.

As for this spot, Rothfus Campaign Manager Jon Raso has already issued a rebuttal declaring that, “Congressman Critz supports President Obama for a second term and the same high taxes and regulations that have sent our jobs overseas, along with the wasteful spending that’s sent billions of our taxpayer dollars to China. Keith Rothfus will empower our job creators and workers and supports the policies that will bring jobs back to Pennsylvania.”

  1. The policy choice of Bill Clinton – who was just in here to back Critz – was free trade. The policy choice of George Bush – who gave a FEMA patronage job to Rothfus – was free trade. What is the attack about? The multi-nationals want to pay companies to ship jobs overseas and the people they support for office will do it. Mr. Rothfus is endorsed by the international Chamber of Commerce. The international Chamber is funded by the world’s multinational corporations. They don’t care about your flag, your country or your jobs. And neither will Mr. Rothfus.
