DCCC Targets Costello and Meehan in Digital Ads on the AHCA

image002The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee is running digital ads targeting Congressmen Ryan Costello (R-Chester) and Pat Meehan (R-Delaware) over the American Health Care Act (AHCA).  The ads are part of a national ad campaign targeting 30 Republican members of Congress.

“This digital ad campaign will educate voters in targeted districts about this morally bankrupt repeal and will hold Representative Costello and Meehan accountable,” DCCC spokesman Evan Lukaske said in a statement.

The ads focus on what Democrats argue will be the results of the AHCA if it is enacted, specifically that 24 million people will lose their health insurance, and increased costs for Americans.  The AHCA passed the House with 20 Republicans and all Democrats voting against it.  Costello and Meehan were two of four Pennsylvania Republicans to vote against the bill.

“The NRCC applauds Congressmen Costello and Meehan for their independence and steadfast commitment to the people of their districts. Nancy Pelosi and her cabal of out-of-touch liberals would prefer to keep Obamacare in place, with millions of Americans suffering from skyrocketing premiums and fewer health care options,” National Republican Campaign Committee Chris Martin said in an email.

The ad campaign is targeting what the DCCC says are the “30 most vulnerable” Republicans in the country.  The ads will run on Facebook and Instagram.

Ad campaigns like this are not often used to move the needle of support on an issue, but to generate earned media coverage and engage the base outside of the usual campaign schedule.

  1. The D’s are taking a play out of Comrade trumps play book. As many lies as he told wiretap, voter fraud etc etc,
There are enough stupid deplorables, Repubs and uninformed low lifes that will believe.

  2. Dumb Demparty as usual. Meehan voted with the Dems this time. Sit quietly for now. When the time comes to work for our Dem candidate, if we ever find a good one, then the attack should be- so Meehan voted the right way one time. Thanks. But what about these other votes? Then list them, and how bad they were. And attack him that way. He listened to his constituents once in a whole history of never having a town hall , or paying attention to us.

  3. Just wasting more partisan money to try to trick constituents into believing a false narrative. Yaknow, the DCCC special. The same people that rigged the 2016 Dem Primary for Clinton when Bernie should have won! It is pathetic how out of touch they are with their own base. On the other hand, you’ve got to applaud Costello and Meehan for standing up for their constituents. A lot of conservatives are pissed, but it takes serious cherries to step up to the plate and do what they did. I wish more Dems would work across the isle like this two have.

  4. I live in Meehan’s district and I’m not a huge fan. But, I don’t get why DCCC are targeting Congressmen who voted against the AHCA. Seems silly. If anything him not being a rubber stamp and a moderate vote is a strong reason to vote for Meehan in 2018.

I guess when you are arguing that it wasn’t really repeal and replace, much of Obamacare remains, and that yet at the same time its disaster and millions will literally now die. You have to attack both the yes and no vote.

DCCC need to pick a lane, this line of argument isn’t clear. Also would help if DCCC had a solution. I’m confused on what voting for a Democrat in 2018 means in regard to healthcare. It sounds like Obamacare is failing, but leave it in place just because.

  5. Maybe the reason the DCCC is not targeting Fitzpatrick is because he may switch to being a Democrat.

  6. Didn’t both Costello and Meehan vote against repeal of the ACA? So How can they justify running ads against them?

  7. “@RepCharlieDent @RepFitzpatrick @RepRyanCostello @RepMeehan @RepCartwright @USRepMikeDoyle @RepDwightEvans @RepBrady @CongBoyle Thank you to these PA members for their #VoteNoAHCA and standing up for PA: @RepCharlieDent @RepBrianFitz @RepRyanCostello @RepMeehan

    — Governor Tom Wolf (@GovernorTomWolf) May 4, 2017”

So, there you have it. All Wolf was doing was polishing the DCCC stiletto before it was used to stab Costello and Meehan in the back.

Truly, Wolf’s tweet was pure bird crap.

    That’s how they roll.
