DeFrank Named Costa’s Chief of Staff

Colleen DeFrank

History was made on Tuesday when Senate Democratic Leader Jay Costa (D-Allegheny) named Colleen DeFrank as his new Chief of Staff.

DeFrank, 44, takes over the position following the retirement of Tony Lepore who had served as Chief of Staff to the Senate Democratic Leader since 1987.

The daughter of the late former state Rep. Tom Tigue, DeFrank becomes the first woman in Pennsylvania history to assume the role as Chief of Staff to the Democratic Leader.

She has worked for the State Senate for 22 years and has previously served as Director of Operations for the caucus, Chief of Staff to Senator Wayne Fontana, and Legislative Director for two Democratic Leaders.

“It’s been an honor to serve and support members of the PA Senate for my entire career,” said DeFrank. “I’m eager and excited to continue doing this essential work in my new role as Senator Costa’s Chief of Staff.”

DeFrank assumed her new role effective December 1, 2022.

  1. Yes, finally. But then the Dems have not had a Leadership majority in decades. Finally, PA has voted a small crack in the solidly MAGA PA legislature of regressives and morons.
