Democrats Hold 356K Voter Registration Lead Over GOP

Voter registration by PA county

As the summer rolls closer and closer to Labor Day, we decided to take a look at voter registration numbers in the Commonwealth and their potential impact in the November general election.

Democrats (3.9M) continue to hold a registration advantage over Republicans (3.55M) by approximately 356,000 voters. Those registered with no affiliation total just over one million (1.03M), while other party registrants are just under 345,000.

Democrats dominate the big cities and southeast collar counties, ceding to the GOP the other 54 counties in the state.

All parties are busily courting the “youth” vote and Democrats hold an advantage among those between the ages of 18-24 with 306,109 registrants to 242,579 for the GOP – a difference of nearly 64,000.

Democrats also hold a significant edge in registration numbers for those ages 25-44 with more than 1.34 million identifying “D” to just under 950,000 as Republicans.

The GOP does hold a large advantage among those aged 55-64 with just under 713,000 to 605,000 for Democrats.

  1. I really don’t know what will happen the rest of the way, but I look at numbers. We probably agree the presidency goes through Pennsylvania
If you go to every county in the state and look at the democrat vote percentage in 2020 and now four years later look at where the numbers have gone. I believe a major shift is taking place and that shift started
sixteen years ago, when there was a million-registration vote advantage.
It happened in Ohio and Florida which are now reliably republican. Wisconsen and Michigan were once in the democrat column and now tossups. This has also happened in red states Arizona, Georgia and North Carolina. I am not sure who will win the 2024 presidential election but it will be interesting to see the shifts that are taking place

    1. Michigan hasn’t been democratic for some time. Between gerrymandering… now fixed, a GOP lock on governor and both houses… now also fixed, you will see unions swing back to the left for this election cycle. Wisconsin is just now shaking off the GOP control and the malfeasance of Scott Walker. NC, GA, FL, PA will be the bigger battlegrounds. Recent court decisions in PA will help the Dem.voters too. Mail in ballots were under fire, but they seem to escaped the setbacks the GOP threw their way.

      1. Hilarious. For every home that has a cult leader sign up, there are 20 homes with no signs. As hard as it is to believe, the majority of Michigan does not want dangerous Republican policies. And our Dem Gov and Congress are kicking ass for all Michiganders.

    2. Oh wow a major shift 16 years ago, I wonder what caused that. Oh wait I know, we elected a black President and white racist folks decided to switch to Republican. This country has had its racism problem exposed once again. Did you know only 13% of Republicans are black. It has become the party of racist, and now they want to elect a rapist racist!!! Disgusting

      1. Did you know that 13% of Pennsylvanians are black? Seems like that registration number is fairly representative of the demographics reported in the 2020 census.

  2. It is all about turnout. Get Out The Vote or GOTV. The campaign and volunteers that out messages, out organizes, out volunteers, out registers voters and gets them to the Polls, to vote, Votes Blue & protects the integrity of the vote after the Polls close, will win. So, sign up “to make it so.” At https://mobilize.us/ “Don’t agonize, ORGANIZE!” Nancy Pelosi. “Democracy is not a spectator sport. Without (Our) participation, it is not a democracy.” Michael Moore. Prove Will Rogers wrong when he said: “I don’t belong to any organized political party, I am a registered Democrat.” Neither the DNC, the Harris-Walz Campaign or the State or County Democratic Committees or the “fake,” “failing” “dangerously liberal” “Mainstream” “News Media” will do this for us. Only “We, the People,” can do this. Prove the pundits and Pollsters all wrong! VOTE BLUE NO MATTER WHO! Save our democracy from fascism.

  3. That statewide Democratic registration edge is shrinking and now only exists in 13 counties (all the Biden counties minus Bucks plus Luzerne.)

    1. My whole family is registered Republican, but we don’t vote for treason, so Kamala it is.

Trump is a terrible candidate an he’s driving millions of Republicans to vote against him.

    2. My mother is a registered Republican but hasn’t voted red since Romney. Funny how t hat works.
