Dems in U.S. House backing away (slightly) from the brink?

It looks like U.S. Reps. Kathy Dahlkemper, Paul Kanjorski, Chris Carney and Patrick Murphy have lost — and a Democratic-held open seat has flipped — but two Democrats in the delegation are narrowly leading. With 92 percent of votes counted statewide, Rep. Jason Altmire is clinging to a 4,000-vote lead, while Rep. Mark Critz has an even narrower 2,000 vote margin. As expected, Democratic Rep. Tim Holden has held on to his seat, and both vulnerable Republicans — Reps. Jim Gerlach and Charlie Dent — are in good shape. So the Democratic loss could end up being minus five, rather than minus seven. — Louis Jacobson
