Dent Announces Saturday Exit From Congress

Congressman Charlie Dent (R-Lehigh) announced he will officially resign from Congress on Saturday, May 12th.

According to the Reading Eagle Dent told Governor Tom Wolf and House Speaker Paul Ryan he will officially resign at 11:59 p.m. on Saturday.

“I would like to thank the people of the 15th District and the entire Commonwealth of Pennsylvania for putting their trust and faith in me to serve as their representative. I am forever grateful,” Dent wrote in the letter.

Dent, who announced he would not seek re-election last year, did not give a reason for his early exit from Congress, but it has been reported that job opportunities ahead of the midterm elections helped his decision.

In Wolf’s announcement setting the special election to replace Congressman Pat Meehan on the November 6th general election, he said that other Congressional special elections would do that same thing.

  1. I think he would have been able to hold his seat in a general election. Not sure about a Primary. But unless Dems nominate Berne Bro in LV, this one goes Blue. and not Charlie’s fault.

  2. Many in Congress are trying to be the next Joe Scarborough. I always thought Rep Dent would be a lifer in politics but things change and, perhaps, he was smart enough to anticipate redistricting would not hold up in the Supreme Court and he got out.

    1. Shut up dude. He told everyone he was resigning already. You’re a troll.

      1. EBCIV is obviously a sour former Dent staffer who hasn’t admitted to themselves that they got conned into believing the GOP had morals. Sorry 4 u.

        1. Lol someone just called me a Wagner staffer in another thread. Who else do I work for? I guess when you give a positive opinion about someone it automatically means you work for them. Don’t worry Guillermo, I don’t have any positive opinions on you and your saltiness. I’m guessing you’re the type that bought HRCs book huh? Lol you’re still getting conned. Your blue wave has turned into a puddle. I’d be pissed too if I were you.

    2. @David – he literally made an announcement in April that he would resign in May. So more like a 1 months notice. *eye roll*
