DNC Chairman Tim Kaine Announces that The Roots will Perform at “Moving America Forward” Rally with President in Philadelphia, PA on Sunday, October 19th

WASHINGTON, DC –  DNC Chairman Tim Kaine announced today that the musical group, The Roots will perform at the “Moving America Forward” rally with President Obama on Sunday, October 10th in the Germantown neighborhood of Philadelphia, PA. The rally will be held at the park next to Robert Fulton Elementary School; doors will open at 3:00 pm and the program will begin at 4:00 pm.

The Roots were formed at the Philadelphia High School for the Creative Performing Arts and maintain close ties with their native hometown of Philadelphia, including hosting an annual music festival in the city every June. During the 2008 campaign The Roots performed and campaigned in support of President Obama. As performers, The Roots are known for their unique brand of acoustic hip-hop that has influenced numerous rap and R&B acts. The group is currently the house band on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.

“We are excited to have The Roots perform in Philadelphia at the second “Moving America Forward” rally with President Obama as part of the Democratic Party’s Fall campaign push to energize voters heading into the final weeks of the campaign,” said DNC Chairman Tim Kaine. “It’s great to have The Roots playing in front of a hometown crowd to rally supporters of the President.”

“Philadelphia and all of Southeastern Pennsylvania was vital to helping elect President Obama in 2008, and we need Pennsylvanians to turn out in support Democrats up and down the ballot in November,” Kaine continue.

As we approach the midterm elections, the President will lay out the stakes for the country and the choice for voters this November: whether to support Democratic leaders and continue to make progress for American families and small businesses—or to return to the failed, Bush-era policies that nearly drove the nation into a second Great Depression.

Sunday’s rally in Philadelphia comes on the heels of last week’s “Moving America Forward” kick-off rally with President Obama in Madison, Wisconsin and Vice President Joe Biden’s rally at Penn State. Following Sunday’s event in Philadelphia, President Obama will hold “Moving America Forward” rallies in Ohio in October 17th and Las Vegas, NV on October 22nd and a web cast town hall on October 12th.

The event is free and open to the public. Tickets are not required, but an RSVP is encouraged. Space is available on a first-come, first-served basis. To RSVP, visit http://pa.barackobama.com/PhillyMAF.

Media logistics, including RSVP information for press will be released in the coming days.
