Dr. Joyce Considers Run for PA-9

Republican Dr. John Joyce is reportedly considering a run to replace retiring Congressman Bill Shuster.

“The time for my involvement in public service has arrived. After more than 25 years serving as a physician to patients in over 12 counties in Central and SouthWestern Pennsylvania area, I am prepared to serve on a larger level as the Representative from Pennsylvania’s 9th congressional district,” Joyce told PoliticsPA.

Joyce, a native of Altoona, practiced medicine in the Altoona area for over 25 years.  Prior to opening the Altoona Dermatology Associates, he has worked at the Portsmouth Naval Hospital in Virginia during Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm.

“After thoughtful prayer and consideration and with the support of my wife and family, I am committed to listen to my community and continue to serve them as a strong conservative voice in the United States Congress,” Joyce said.

Joyce did not give a specific time table for a final decision saying he is “strongly considering a run for the open seat of the 9th Congressional District” and he will make a “final decision to enter shortly.”

Art Halverson and Benjamin Dayton Hornberger have both already announced for the seat, while state Sens. Rich Alloway, John Eichelberger, and Pat Stefano, and state Rep. Dave Reed are considering runs for the seat.
