DSCC Targets Kelly and Barletta in Google Ads

DSCC Kelly and Barletta AdsRep. Mike Kelly (R-Butler) has been rumored as a possible 2018 opponent to Sen. Bob Casey. Rep. Lou Barletta (R-Luzerne) has not.

But the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee is not waiting for them to decide. The committee is running google search ads targeting both Congressmen over their support of the American Health Care Act (AHCA).

The ads will appear in the Google search results when people in Pennsylvania look up either Congressman or their records on healthcare during the two week Congressional recess.

“The GOP’s Plan jeopardizes coverage for pre-existing conditions and makes working people pay more for less — and when Congressmen Barletta and Kelly face the voters there will be nowhere they can hide from their support for this reckless agenda,” DSCC spokesman David Bergstein said in a statement.

Ads like this are often done to help engage with the base, and highlight new additions to opposition research sites that would otherwise go unnoticed.

Kelly has been rumored as a possible candidate to challenge Senator Bob Casey in 2018.  Barletta has been closely tied to Trump, and secured changes to the AHCA in an effort to court votes from conservatives on the bill.

Update: Kelly and Barletta’s campaigns responded to a request for comment.

“Rep. Kelly has been elected four times on the promise to repeal and replace Obamacare, a failed law that is hurting Pennsylvanians. Any ad attacking him for working to keep that promise is just plain ridiculous,” Kelly spokesman Tom Qualtere said in an email.

“It’s flattering that the DSCC views Congressman Barletta as a leader and someone they fear as a Senate candidate. Despite the DSCC’s ridiculous attacks, the congressman is committed to doing his job and lifting Pennsylvanians out from under the crushing costs of Obamacare,” Barletta spokesman Jon Anzur said in an email.

  1. For the time being, this pre-emptive strike against potential 2018 Senate candidates is a venture (“Fight Wealthcare”) that is solely supported by the DSCC. But give it time. Sooner or later one of George Soros’ many tentacles will creep in to fund the effort. The so-called “Indivisible” organization would be the best front organization for it.

7 million voters in PA. During the next two weeks (which include Easter and IRS taxes due), will even 7 voters look these guys up in Google?
